Can't Live Without Work is a seminal document created by the North Slave Métis at the outset of the Diavik project. It continues to serve as a powerful statement of our distinct social and economic patterns, cultural traditions, and community values. The document underscores the necessity of meaningful consultation and engagement with our people to ensure that any development proceeds in a way that respects and upholds our rights, heritage, and way of life.

The North Slave Métis assert Aboriginal rights throughout the Northwest Territories - both the Federal and Territorial Governments owe us a duty to consult and accommodate. This document outlines our expectations for proper and meaningful consultation and engagement.
