Seasonal Environment and Wildlife Monitoring, 4-month term
Position Overview
The position reports to the Environment Team Leader and Wildlife Advisor, operating on a 2-week on and 2-week off schedule at the Ekati mine site in NT. This is a seasonal role (from March to August 2025) that involves contributing to environmental and wildlife monitoring programs at the Ekati Diamond Mine, with a focus on fieldwork, bird monitoring and wildlife mitigation support.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Monitor bird activity in the vicinity of open pit mines.
Identify local tundra birds, migratory birds and raptors.
Record bird activity manually and input data into the computer.
Identify and photograph potential nesting locations, collaborating with scalers to cover and other mine operations
Provide daily updates on bird activity to the Wildlife Advisor.
Operate bird deterrents (bear banger/screamers).
Monitor wildlife, including caribou and other species, to support Ekati’s Wildlife Program compliance.
Manage bird monitoring activities at Ekati.
Review and adhere to relevant work instructions, participate in safety meetings, and complete Personal Safety Cards daily.
Assist full-time staff and contractors with daily fieldwork for seasonal environmental and wildlife monitoring programs.
Assist with remote fieldwork, often under inclement weather conditions.
Be comfortable working outdoors, on the land, in a boat, and traveling by helicopter.
Education/Experience
Burgundy Diamond Mines values on-the-land experience, Traditional Knowledge, and wildlife monitoring expertise from northerners and Indigenous Peoples.
Environmental monitoring experience or a keen interest in observing and identifying wildlife (birds)
Driver’s License (preferred).
Ability to work 12-hour shifts from a vehicle.
Effective communicator and team player.
The successful candidate must possess autonomy and collaborative skills within a team environment. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are essential. The ability to work responsibly and effectively with minimal supervision is crucial.

The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.
